The purpose of this essay is to briefly analyse Luigi Einaudi’s autobiographical writings, which will be republished as part of the National Edition of Luigi Einaudi’s writings, in such a way as to give them the unity they bear in tracing the Piedmontese economist’s public formation. They consist of three sections: the Diario dell’Esilio (Exile Diary 1943-1944); the Diario 1945-1947 (Diary of the Bank of Italy), both edited by Paolo Soddu respectively in 1993 e 1997 and reviewed on this occasion; the notes of the Presidency of the Republic (1948-1954). In particular, the notes drafted during the presidency of the Republic, and until now almost completely unpublished, are of inestimable importance for historical analysis, as they contain valuable information on the management of government crises by the head of state, who noted down meetings with the various political delegations during consultations.
